So who else is pretty excited about the news of MC 5, I know I am, I might just switch from fcs to mc because of it. for one. you can use it with the mxo2 mini – the main reason, ($500 box vs avids $10K box)

and I also am liking the fact of that you can edit and tirm without changing modes now like fcp but you can also lock out those features when your done timing so you don’t accidentally move stuff (which happens a lot in final cut)

also anyone know if or how we can get in on a aplha or beta copy of mc5 cause I am looking at buying either fcs3 or mc5 soon! and that will be the determining factor.

It looks like a cool update…

Note that the MXO mini is for output only…primarily for monitoring. No capture with it, so it’s not a true replacement for Avid hardware, depending on your workflow.

yep. I don’t plan on ingesting much besides digital anymore. maybe hdmi or something else buy you could always use a third party capture tool then import the files.

Personally I’m interested in the sony NXCAM’s because they aren’t too expensive (well they are for me, but I have no camera yet, just a mac pro). I like the because they used standard SDHC card instead of overpriced proprietary cards like the p2

also do you know if I can get a Avid MC 4 from say an auction on ebay (brand new stealed ones) and get the free upgrades or does it have to be direct from Avid. and also do academic purchases qualify for this?

if someone from avid reads this please contact me at geek181@gmail.com, I would also be very very interested in trying a beta or alpha version of mc 5 if at all possible.

The offer to purchase MC4 now and get MC5 for free most likely means that you would need to purchase MC4 from Avid, not from just anyone, not just a used copy from ebay. When you say “stealed” ones: I doubt Avid would warrant those. Whether the copy you purchase is sealed or not is probably less relevant than the date it is registered and to whom. YMMV.

Pricing for MC5 and/or various upgrade paths have not been announced yet (except from the grace period for folks that purchase MC4 between now and the release of MC5).

Academic purchases are a different beast. If you purchased MC4 academic, you are going to be entitled to 4 years of free upgrades anyway.

I bet a gazillion of editors around the globe are wanting to test ride MC5.

well if there sealed they couldn’t be registered. the card is in the box I would assume or at least it is for pro tools.
