    Hello all,

Have to bring an old project from 9 years ago into the present.

44 minute documentary made on Avid media composer 11.

I want to rebuild it then cut it down for a new project.

Will the Automatic Duck application reach back that far to translate the Avid project to a Final cut 6 project?

Can anyone in Australia do this for me for a fee or should I just spring for the purchase?

I imagine it should. Avid is incredible when it comes to backwards compatability between versions, and part of the reason for that is that they continue to use the same media format–OMF. Of course, new versions of Avid have the option of MXF too, but your MC 11 should have captured OMF and the sequence should translate fine via Automatic Duck. You might want to drop them a line to be sure, or check the Automatic Duck forum here on the Cow.

If you’re going to be taking a lot of Avid projects to FCP, buy it. It will not only keep the recurring fee to have someone else do it, but you’ll be able to charge that fee if anyone else in town needs it.

    Michael.

Send an email to Wes at the Automatic Duck website and he’ll tell you for sure whether or not that will work. Always best to ask before you find out the hard way it doesn’t work.

It SHOULD work fine. I had Wes to a test conversion for me when we were trying to online something from that version of Avid. The timeline came over fine, but none of our effects did, like Paint Effects and Animattes. But that is a given…they are different systems.

    But it worked fine.

Funny…I am sitting in front of an Avid Meridian v11 right now…

    Thanks Guys,

I’m off to talk to Wes.

I seem to remember asking for an old fashioned submaster of this show ie natural sound no graphics etc – but I didnt get it way back then.

    That would have done fine.

Its something we do all the time now!!
