I am Mainley a FCP Editor and unforntley dont have much experince with any Avid system. We have a film that was cut on Avid media commposer 7, and we would now like to take this film Into FCP. I was told by someone on Creative cow, that the best EDL format would be the CMX-3600, I was also told by serveral other sources that this is the Standered between the two Editing systems. Is this true. And also the Editor using The Avid is saying There is no way to generate a Edl from her Avid, is this true, I find it very hard to beleive. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to go. Thank you. Mark

Avid generates EDL using a EDL Manager – a standalone application that comes with all Avid NLEs.

depending on the comp[lexity of the project, an omf, medialess if necessary, or audio only would be a cool way to go.

    Make two omfs.
    1. audio only with embedded audio (consolidate first in fcp if necessary), or if the audio is complete you could just mix it down to a stereo pair and blow it out as a simple two track omf.

    2. vision omf with no embedded media.

than you can batch into mc.

Edls are fairly limited, vision fx are restricted to smpte based wipes and dissolves, and only a limited number of vision tracks, so you may have to export and import multiple edls.

The edl manager is an option when you install mc…

If you have some spare dollars then the automatic duck will sort it, but omf or edl manager should do the trick.

Mail back if you have probs with the edl, there are some pitfalls…

eg. the edl setting at the import end need to to match those at the export end…

Have the EDL in Hand. I was able to import it and have the sequence, However, some of the Audio didn’t make onto the Timeline, I dont see this as being a huge issue, since I since I see all of the clips seem to have separte audio and video, do you know how this happened?
