I already posted this on the Avid Media Community forum…

Interested the experience CC readers have had with playback/editing with MC5, AMA, AVC I 100,
    on a MacBook Pro.

I personally can’t get it to work well enough to edit with. AMA works well enough, but video freezes after about 15sec of playback. Audio still plays. Have tried many different settings with the project, resolution, Drives, esata, fw800, etc…
I’d give up and say “AVCI 100 is too intensive for my core 2 duo”

BUT….It plays and edits awesome in Premiere CS5 and Pana’s P2CMS viewer.
Also I nearly begged a couple reputable Mac retailers to sell me a new i7 Macbook Pro.
They insisted my current laptop should be fine for AVC 100 and MC5.

I would just use what works but for this project my main workstation is a Symphony Nitris DX.

Any feedback would be much welcome.

AVCIntra from P2 directly? MXF? Or Converted by FCP into QT?

I have done some AVCI via AMA into FCP, consolidated it first…but had no issues of performance. But then I didn’t have any Avid hardware attached either.

I’m accessing P2 files off an external hard drive, in the original P2 file structure.
So not consolidated, it doesn’t matter if I have external “avid” hardware attached or not.

But this is definetly an Avid workflow. When working in FCP did you transcode to ProRes?
Or leave native. I only have FCP 6 so I’m not sure how 7 handles the demands of AVC-I 100 .

But as I said Premiere CS5 works great.

Anyway how does native AVC1-100 work on your laptop?
