We are attempting to place current MC with Nitris DX and Pro Tools HD (hardware) into a new Mac Pro.
Software wise it works, but the next step is to get the hardware to play nice.
Has anyone tried any new Thunderbolt chassis to house HBAs and extras such as RED ROCKET, BMD cards, etc…heck even a CUBIX Expander!

Im tempted to see what happens but would rather ask here first 🙂

Nitris DX is not supported by Avid with an a expansion chassis and thunderbolt adapter. They say it may work under some conditions, but not reliably enough to be approved. The official word is that the Nitris DX should not be used with the new MacPro, and they have no plans to redesign it to become more compatible.

I have Avid MC working with an AJA IoXT via Thunderbolt, as well as with a BMD Ultrastudio Mini Monitor. Not working with ProTools.

MC 7.0.3 works on nMP 10.9.2, both with an AJA Kona 3G and Decklink 4K. About all I have to contribute on that one.

Finally got a Thunderbolt 2 unit to test.
Sonnet Echo Express III-R (rack version)to be exact.
Avid HBA card works flawlessly with Avid MC 7.x.
RED ROCKET works and BMD DeckLink HD as well as ATTO R680.
What doesnt work is any CUBIX or PCI Expander 🙁

Spoke to soon with the Nitris DX.

It was fine when I had it at the start which was 10.9.2.

Then came 10.9.3 which broke it somewhat.

Then installed 10.9.4 and felt it was fine with the odd errors here and there that would go away after a few tries of running app.

After a week of that, the app would not open due to the errors.

Back to basics and took another nMP brand spanking new with 10.9.

So far running Nitris DX again with Beta/XDCAM decks as well as AMA for MXF/RED files.

Ill keep it this way for a week and see if it breaks again.

10.9.2 is all the current MC7 and MC8 is blessed for. 10.9.3 and especially 10.9.4 are not cleared for use yet. THus why I’m still on 10.8.4. Because I cannot get 10.9.2 at all! Apple has now made it impossible to get anything BUT the most recent version. Unless you downloaded a backup of 10.9 when it first came out.

    Asshats.
