    Hi,

I’m new to this forum and new to HD.
In hopes that there are some of you who sincerely believe that there is no such thing as a stupid question:

We’re editing on an AVID MC 2.6.1 (we’ve been all SD up to this point) and have a client coming with with 350 gigs of .MXF files shot 720p 59.94.

I was able to copy the test file to one of our media drives, then open a 720p 59.94 project, open media tool and copy the file to a bin.
    1. No audio. Are audio / video separate files?
    2. I can export a tiff file (they’re wanting stills for print ads as well), but QT is a white or black video screen only.
    3. How in the world do I get these to finished spots to TV stations (some of which still require a BetaSP tape?
    4. The production company that shot the footage (edits on Final Cut only) responded to my questions with:

Not sure why you’re getting white screen, because the output from your system would be from the CODEC available within the Avid and not relative to .mxf files on timeline. Check output settings in Avid.

I edit in SD timelines with HD files and that gives me the ability to size and resize shots to taste. We shot the recent material with that option in mind. You can add zooms, pans, shake, ECU’s, etc. This give great opportunity to punctuate the spots as you feel the need.

You should be able to take the HD time line and nest it back into SD time line, render to uncompressed D-1, then play out to Beta SP.

Having never used raw .mxf files, if audio isn’t embedded then you need to attach same to each video clip, but the good news is the video and audio files are all the same length relative to each other, so syncing them should be very simple (end)

Anyone out there point an Old School editor out?

The best answer that I am finding is to upgrade to MC 3.5 and then you can use all the files natively without having to import them – saving space on your drives. 350 GB? That’s a lot of footage! You will need to down convert or transcode your HD shots on the timeline to SD before doing a digital cut to tape. Good luck,
    Nancy
