Avid Mbox 3 & FCP
Posted by Alex Mccunn on March 16, 2011 at 3:31 pmHi,
Has anyone had any experience with the new avid mbox’s and the latest version of fcp? Wanting to use it to record voiceover in fcp and to mixdown audio for films in pro tools.

March 16, 2011 at 4:26 pmWell, when I had it on an FCP system I worked on a year ago, we had a dual boot…one for FCP, one for ProTools. And I unplugged it when I was using FCP. It caused crashing. Things might have changed, I don’t know.

March 16, 2011 at 6:01 pmNo, you certainly can have them installed on the same boot partition. Running them at the same time as software only seems to work for me. I’m doing as I type this.
Is it best practice? No. Both are mem and resource hogs, and both use QT. This can cause issues when being run at the same time.
Getting FCP to use PT hardware will be the issue. FCP qualified device list does not include the MBox.

March 16, 2011 at 6:03 pmYeah FCP using the pro tools hardware is the bit I’m worried about. Can’t find any info anywhere saying whether it will work or not.

March 17, 2011 at 3:50 amMy Mbox Mini (protools 8 installed) will not work as an audio I/O in FCP.
Though I haven’t had any issues with both FCP(7) and Protools installed on the same boot. I have both installed and running fine on my MacPro and MacBook Pro
