Well, when I had it on an FCP system I worked on a year ago, we had a dual boot…one for FCP, one for ProTools. And I unplugged it when I was using FCP. It caused crashing. Things might have changed, I don’t know.

So can you not have pro tools and fcp running on the same boot?

No, you certainly can have them installed on the same boot partition. Running them at the same time as software only seems to work for me. I’m doing as I type this.

Is it best practice? No. Both are mem and resource hogs, and both use QT. This can cause issues when being run at the same time.

Getting FCP to use PT hardware will be the issue. FCP qualified device list does not include the MBox.

Yeah FCP using the pro tools hardware is the bit I’m worried about. Can’t find any info anywhere saying whether it will work or not.

My Mbox Mini (protools 8 installed) will not work as an audio I/O in FCP.

Though I haven’t had any issues with both FCP(7) and Protools installed on the same boot. I have both installed and running fine on my MacPro and MacBook Pro
