Avid Interplay – Mac sepcific
Hi,
I am still really struggling with Interplay being thrust upon our workflow. I am constantly having crashes and non-resposive moments not to mention spending about an hour every day waiting while interplay checks-in sequences etc.
Is there anyone here with Interplay experience who can offer advice as to how to proceed. I still find it to be the annoying “middle man” in between the work I need to do and the process of getting it done.
Can anyone show me how/why it is a good thing?
6 edit seats, HD reality show. Ridiculously tight turnaround. XDCamHD media, ingest, cut, grade and online in Avid.

In addition….
Continally dropping connection to media indexer. I render files and they disappear afterwards.
Connected to a Unity and high speed local storage.

and running on qualified Mojo DX systems.

I do not have any answers for you but I have some advice.
Interplay is an advanced broadcast tool. Most knowledge on these board are on the Edit software side of things, you just don’t see much Interplay talk here.

Further, if you have a support contract with Avid I’m sure they could offer a lot of insight into your problems. Obviously you shouldn’t be seeing crashes nor should you be losing connectivity to the media indexer so frequently. You’ll also need to be more specific about the crashing.
If you don’t have a support contract I’d recommend one it looks like you have a lot invested in Avid products.

We have solved the problem…
Interplay just can’t seem to handle the mix of Unity storage and a local storage array… which is how we are configured. Unity for Offline and transfer and local storage for the HD up-res/online.
I’m disconnecting from the interplay and unity today… should fix everything according to our Avid vendor. guys (who have been incredibly helpful I should say).
However, I have some words for Avid…. Fix this stuff before you sell it. Don’t release a Mac version that’s so full of bugs it’s not even funny. Work out how your customers work day to day and make sure your products can do that well. Get it together Avid!

Yep, despite Avid saying it’s ok to run local and Unity storage with Interplay the fact is you cannot.
Everything is running perfectly now. Online is separated from the offline suites network wise. Everthing good…. now maybe I can finish these shows!
