I am trying to use the “fast import” in avid..I have already transcoded my footage in mpeg streamclip and am now trying to fast import but 15 clips have taken 4 hours so something must be wrong..my import settings are set to 601 not RGB…can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong, what are the correct settings to fast import or if i did everything right and it’s just taking that long???

If you are doing a fast import it would say “fast importing” in the box. Are you certain you transcoded to a frame rate, frame size and codec that matches your project precisely? Any reason you are choosing to use MPEG streamclip to convert files rather than just importing in to Avid or AMAing and then transcoding?

Fast import only works with certain codecs that have native media composer support. I do not have the documentation in front of me, but I seem to recall fast import only working with avid codecs and ikegami GFcam mxf files.

You didn’t ‘hit the mark’ with the settings in MPEG Streamclip. It has to be a DNxHD codec for HD and an Avid meridian codec for SD. You need to nail the sizing of the clips; If you get the settings right in MPEG Streamclip, they’ll fast import. If not, the avid senses it has to recompress. FWIW, you could just use the clips via AMA (if they’re clips and not a DVD)
