Activity Forums Avid Media Composer Avid fails to initialize properly

I am using a HP xw4300 workstation with Media Composer installed. The application was working fine until I installed a couple of other video edit apps for test purposes. After these installations, MC fails to bring up any start-up screen, although I can hear the hard-drive is working. After a short while I get the following: “The application failed to initialize properly (0x80000003)” and all activity stops. If I try to open Avid again, the message comes up much quicker than the first time. I have uninstalled all other edit apps and uninstalled/reinstalled Avid at least a half-dozen times, all to no avail. I’ve run a registry cleaner, which corrected a whole bunch of probs, but still no go. I’ve tried to go back to the state before the installs, but I am not presented with the option of any previous configurations. Any ideas, other than wiping Windows and re-installing? Stu.

Hello. What version of MC are you trying to run? And what’s the specs for your HPxw4300, windows OS?

Hi Vin.. I’ve tried 4 flavours of MC: 3.0.0, 3.0.5, 3.1.1, 3.1.2. The xw4300:3.4GHz hyperthreading Pentium, 1GB RAM, Windows XP SP2. As I said initially, it was working fine until an install of other software and, if my memory serves me correctly, an automatic update happened by mistake. I have removed all the Windows updates from that day, but no difference. Stu
