Avid Editing
Dear all
Hi,I am a new member.I have heard a lot about Avid.I am in a process of learning this application.Could some one advise me how and where to start the basics.What applications and resources do I need to enable me to begin with.I will apppreciate your assistance and help as I am really looking forward to learning and enjoying the whole new experiance of editing.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Briefly, as a hobby I had used the old Adobe Premier 8 years old, a few years back but stopped using because I never had actual video.
Recently I am using Windows Movie Maker on Vista.I enjoy editing small clips with stills,adding transition and effects with music sound track.I have made a few good clips I believe with good results.I think its limited to what it does and have exhausted all areas in manipulating stills.Its good for stills documentaries
I have never used actual video clips.I Would like to now,having heard about Avid.
I have been researching editing applications and have come across Avid being the most popular amongst the media industry.
I would like to change my career and move on to being some kind of Editor after learning this application with the help of professionals like you.All I need is some guidance regards to what to buy where to get some courses/resources etc and how to start from basics.
I have a creative mind.
I hope this is enough information.I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Certified Avid Training is the way to go. How much time and money can you spend in this endeavor? The more time and money you spend, the better you will get.
If you want to short-cut, you can buy the Media Composer software and go through all the Lynda.com tutorials. Also, it would be a good idea to intern at a company already using Avid. If you can afford one on one training with an expert, that is a good way to go too.
OR combine all these ideas, along with a lot of self-study and practice.
If you are making a career switch, you really should learn Final Cut Pro as well. That way, you don’t need to turn down a job. Also, learn Photoshop, After Effects and Motion (in that order) so you can have more skills than the basic editor.
Also, learn how to make a good demo reel and how to market your skills. These things are crucial to staying alive in this business.
