  Avid DS Nitris v11 on Server – Problems

  Hi,

  I have been an Avid DS/Nitris user for the past 8 years. We recently went in for Nitris v11 (earlier we were using v8 on Avid’s dedicated system).

  Since v10.5 Avid has made it possible for customers to go in for their own Hardware. Avid has recommended certain set-up’s https://aviddssupport.avid.com/index.htm?menu=dsv11/d_dsv11.htm&page=configurations/ds-11-requirements.htm

  We however tried to cut down costs further by Installing everything on an assembled server – the specs are
  Avid DS Nitris v11 on Dual Xeon E5649/ Intel S5520SC Board/
  48GB RAM/ 60GB x 2 Intel SSD/
  Quadro 5000 /
  8TB Storage on RAID 6/
  Cinetal Broadcast monitor

  We even eliminated the Aja-Kona 3G card.

  Output to the Broadcast Monitor is routed through Quadro 5000.

  PROBLEM :- The HD output playback is not smooth & strobes a lot (on all panning shots); also field flickers are noticed frequently.

  Was it a mistake to get Avid DS Nitris 11 installed onto a server ? Should we go back and have a separate Workstation for the Nitris and a separate SAS for the Media ?
