Are you just resizing the image (not sure if i’ve heard the term post zoom before) if so add clip effect, DVE. You can add keyframes to enable a zoom

if you have a smaller sized file, then yes just add a DVE effect to your clip, and resize/keyframe as needed.

If you have an oversized file and want to do a pan and zoom, then link to the source instead of capturing it. Add a DVE, and you can now work on the file in its native resolution.

Whenever possible, i ask for bigger files and try to maintain resolution this way.
