AVID DNx145 codec for FCPS2?
Posted by Todd Reid on May 2, 2007 at 8:36 pmThis is a new codec for me, I’m doing research on the net now, but so far I can’t find a link with fcp.
I thought I’d see what the cow has to say…
Is it possible in FCPS2 to export in DNx145?
peace!

May 2, 2007 at 8:57 pmWell then…shush my mouth. Last I heard the DNxHD codecs were Avid only. And I asked a couple guys at NAB in the Avid booth as well that confirmed my thoughts.
Guess they were wrong. Or, maybe you can’t work with the DNxHD files, but you can export to that codec? Dunno.
Sorry if I am misinforming, but that is what I was told.

May 2, 2007 at 9:00 pmThere are no wrong answers. I appreciate your reply.
I still can’t find anything else about it.
My needs are only to export to this codec for delivery.

May 2, 2007 at 9:26 pmYes. You must download the installer from Avid. The codec is free and cross platform. It is an ‘open’ codec.

May 2, 2007 at 9:44 pmOk. I downloaded it, but I don’t see where to tell FCP to use it.

May 3, 2007 at 1:25 amIf you are going FCP to Avid, this is going to work like Meridien codecs. You will export a DNxHD file wrapped as a QT file. This will set it up for “fast import” into Avid. The import will still create a duplicate media file, as this QT is copied and rewrapped into MXF media. Haven’t done it, so I could be wrong, but that’s how it works using other QT codecs.

May 6, 2007 at 10:56 amOliver is correct, we’ve done this going FCP into MCA. It’s just like other QT codecs.
best regards,
jeremy
