  • AVID dislikes my file format!!! what do i do?

i have ripped home DVD’s as apart of my editing project. I imported the first footage DVD into AVID. All works fine. I repeated the same process with another home movie DVD except AVID, is not supporting it. It is m4v file and i cant understand why its not wanting to respond? AVID is telling me that the file format is not supported for import. Really confused..

Hope this makes some sense. Any help of guidance will be appreciated.

Mpeg 4 video has always been problematic. Trying bringing it into MPEG Streamclip and converting it into a Quicktime MOV. Since it’s an M4V, it’s already very compressed, so you might want to use a mild compression or even uncompressed just to preserve your quality before it comes into the Avid.

Before you recompressed it any further, just try changing the extension from m4v to .mov.

Or even just go back to the DVD and rip it again with Mpeg Steamclip, this time do it to a mov. If you select an Avid codec then you will be able to do a Fast Import into avid, which is… well… fast.
