    Hi –

I’m running an HP xw8600 with Avid v2.8.3

Over the past couple of weeks it has started to slow down
considerably. This is seen in slow renders, slow opening and
closing of the app itself, slow auto saves, etc…

There is more than enough space on my media RAID and the C drive
is fine as well. No new software has been loaded.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Possible OS updates? Windows defaults, I believe, to having automatic updates turned on, as does Quicktime. Check both to see that those are turned off.

Also, do a fresh boot of the computer then pull up your Task Manager to see what’s running. If anything looks out of the ordinary, kill it and see if your system speeds up.

Is the system overall running slow, or just Avid? If it’s just Avid, back up your projects and reinstall. It doesn’t take more than 20 minutes or so. Try making new user settings too. Yours may have been corrupted.

    Michael –

I’m on a corporate network, so no OS updates get made to this system
    unless I know about it.

I’ll take a look at the Task Manager. Maybe something is running in the BG…

Only Avid seems to be pokey. I’m actually due for an update to v4.0, so I probably won’t do a reinstall in the meantime.

    Many thanks!

Prepare for some major speed and functionality improvements when going from 2.8 to 4.x!
