I’m looking for a Notebook that is compatible with Avid Express Pro. I have the student version so it is 5.1 for Windows.

As I am a beginner, and not looking to profit off this, I am looking for the most affordable notebook option that will still work effectively and not be extremely slow.

What is the lowest end graphics card (size, brand, make) that I can have in my notebook for AVID to run at a normal speed and not crash? Or at least a list of compatible graphics cards outside the QuadroFX line?

Is the video capture card something that I will have to buy separately, and if so, what are some of the affordable brands that I can get? If it attached externally, what hardware do I need to get for it? Are there any other external devices I would need to bring outside footage into the notebook?

Many of the suggestions that I have seen on the Avid system requirements page are out of date, 3 of the 4 Dells on the site are no longer being made (Dell Inspiron 5160, Dell Precision M60, Dell Latitude D800), & the 4th one is incompatible with the 5.1 version (Dell Precision M70).

I tried to call Avid, and they insisted that the site is updated, and if I were to go with a notebook that is not listed on their website, then I would not be able to call their helpline if I run into any problems, even if I were to meet the system requirements.

Also, I have begun to doubt that some of the system requirements are necessary, as some of the notebooks they have listed do not use an NVidia Quadro FX graphics card which I can’t seem to find built into any affordable notebook. It’s even been mentioned to me that the video card is not as important, as it will not affect the finished product, that the system would be supported by a lower end card, and that it is more important that I have more processing power & more and faster RAM for the encoding process.

    Thanks!!!
