  • Avid Background Services Keeps Stopping/Not allowing Background Transcoding

    Hi,

I’m running Media Composer 8.2 on a macbook pro OS 10.9.5 – The Avid Background Services logo is continuously red. When I turn it on, it turns green for about 15 seconds and then switches back to red. When I go to do a background transcode, I get the error message ‘The Media Services Engine was unable to make a connection’. I think this may have started when I updated from 8.0 to 8.2, but I’m not 100% sure about that. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks for the advice, Bill. I checked my Java and it was fine. So, it must be something else.

With version 7.x I had s similar problem.

With instruction from Avid support I did a total manual uninstall of all Avid software. The normal uninstall program provided does not completely uninstall everything, thus the need for a manual process.

After the manual uninstall I reinstalled Avid and everything worked properly..

I’d give Avid a call and have them walk you through it. The process is somewhat lengthy and involves some use of the terminal. I’d post the instructions, but they may no longer be completely valid for Version 8.x. Anyway, you are entitled to phone tech support as you have paid for a mandatory support contract with your Avid software. Make them work for it!

Hi, Mike. I’m not sure what you mean by “the dependencies of the service’. I don’t know what’s conflicting with it.

Thanks for the advice, John. I’m not sure if I’m entitled to support yet, because my student licence still has a few months left before the pro licence kicks in. I’ll look into it though.
