I am using Media Composer 3.5, I have to say it’s a pretty stable version of Avid. The only thing I’m having a problem with is the Audio Mixer Tool. Whenever I change the level of a track it doesn’t seem to affect it. I have to turn the speaker of the track off and on and then it plays it back at the set level. Very strange bug. Does anybody else have this problem and if so what is your work around?

    Thanks!

That’s just how Avid does audio. If the little speaker icon is not ‘on’ then the track is considered inactive. It’s frustrating, especially when compared to FCP where you can drag levels in real time while playing.

I don’t know what I’m missing in the original post, but something doesn’t make sense. Also, if you wanted to do this in real time, as Kris said Avid can’t but FCP can, is simply untrue. It’s called Automation Gain.

    Not untrue at all.

Automation Gain in Avid is not the same thing as just grabbing a fader on the fly in FCP. In Avid, to make an audio volume change you must stop playback. This is not the case in FCP, which was my point. Your point is that you can do what I say Avid can’t, but you must hit the record button to use automation gain… different things.

The OP wanted to know why their adjustments on the mix tool were having no effect. This is die to the track being inactive by having the speaker icon next to the track switched off.

Go back to the last version you had or seach avid.com for the bug fix. This is why I stopped “updating”. They are not updates at all but bug fixes and with them come more bugs you have to find on the fly. No thanks. I’ll just stick to the ones I know. lol

I have the same problem but it doesn’t happen all the time. Thanks for the speaker icon idea, I haven’t tried that, most of the time I just take the slider all the way down to mute and back up, that usually does the trick. I was having this problem before 3.5 by the way.

This has been happening for ages on Symphony Nitris.

My workaround is to put a keyframe on the audio track (make automation visible). This “wakes up” the audio mixer with a keystroke.
