avid and rs 232/422 adapter
Hallo everybody,
I’ve just got an avid serial adapter keyspan+rosetta stone+cables to use with mojo sdi,
After installing drivers, setup the serial port,and connect the serial cables, I’ve launched avid MC4 and tried to capture from Beta 1800 but Avid keeps telling me that the rs 422 device is in use by another application and so it can’t be used by avid as well. Of course no other application is running. So what could the problem be?
I’m working on mac OS 10.6.2 and installed on I also have final cut with blackmagic card, could be that that create the problem?

Does it work if you pull the Black magic card out of the machine?

if you don’t follow the rules, nothing will work. I assume you have FCP running on the same hard drive. The only way to get FCP with Blackmagic/AJA and AVID to work on the same machine is to have TWO internal boot drives on the computer – one with AVID, one with FCP/Blackmagic/AJA.
You are not specifying exactly what “rosetta stone” adaptor you are using. The Keyspan (now Tripplite) USA-28x dual serial adaptor is no longer supported. You need the Keyspan (tripplite) USA-19x USB to RS232 adaptor, and then an additional Addenda RS-2/8 RS232 to RS422 adaptor for reliable VTR control. But if you have this running on the same drive as FCP with the Blackmagic drivers, you will fail.
there are different versions of Media Composer 4 – there is 4.0, 4.04, and now 4.05. All have different requirements of OS dot versions, as well as different Quicktime versions (4.04 requires Quicktime 7.64, not 7.65). If you have just done a “software update” so that your FCP 7 (FCS3) is running correctly with your blackmagic card, and OS-X 10.6.2, then you are SCREWED with your AVID application.
You either play by AVID’s rules, or you don’t play. End of story.
