I have a tech problem. We purchased Adrenaline 1.1 in 2004. While under the paid-for service contract, we upgraded to ver 1.6 and upgraded Windows XP to Service Pack 2. We have since let our contract expire, so no more upgrades. Yesterday, we had a fatal hardware problem and had to reinstall AVID 1.1 from the original disks. However, version 1.6 and sooner do not work with Win SP2. I inserted the 1.6 upgrade disk I made over a year ago. Guess what? THE DISK IS BAD! I’ll admit, it wasn’t given the care it should have and got pretty scratched.

So now, old Avid 1.1 won’t work. And I can’t upgrade to 1.6 or download the upgrade because our service agreement has expired. What should we do?

Do I call AVID and explain my situation? Will they care? Anyone know if AVID makes the upgrade available anywhere else?

    Thanks

I’d call them…spend the 40 mins on hold in the queue and talk with one of the reps. They’ll most likely be able to show in their records that you are a registered owner of 1.6 and give you some options.

Download the CPR release from the Avid site.

    https://www.avid.com/onlinesupport/downloadcpr.asp

    Then look in the Editor_DNA

Thanks everyone for your help. Concerning the CPR: I see multiple versions of MC Adrenaline in there. What is stopping me from downloading an even newer version , such as 2.x, and installing it instead? Do I need to update the dongle? AVID mentions that in the Knowledge base somewhere. Just wondering. For the record, v 1.6.7 worked fine.

    Thanks

    Glad that helped!
I think it is the dongle update that may not allow you to upgrade. Might try it though.

Once assurance is gone, you can buy paid upgrades. To get the 2.6x version would be $995. If you want a year of technical support along with upgrades for the year it would be $1,995. There are a lot of new feature enhancements, but the two biggest features, DNxHD and Phrase recoginition to scripts (I’m sure they have a better name than this when it is released, I just don’t know it), will be worth the upgrade.
