Avid Adrenaline on a MacPro
Please tell me if I am smoking crack for trying to do this…or if it MIGHT work.
I am working at a company that is now ALL FCP. But before that they had two Avids, one MC and another ADRENALINE. But they had issues with the Adrenaline, first the HD card died, then the machine started going south. But they made the switch to FCP so they just threw things into a closet.
Now a project hit our door that the network deliverables require Avid DS project files and media. PERIOD. So I got to wondering, sure, the computer has gone south, but I have the Adrenaline box and the cards, and the MacPros can boot to Windows (via Bootcamp or similar). Now the big question is…can I install the Avid hardware into my MacPro, have a separate boot drive with Windows XP Professional edition and the Avid Adrenaline software, so that we can at least capture the material, then send to a DS shop?
or am I smoking crack?

Why boot into windows? Just run it on the Mac.

Looks like the specs only call for an Avid project file…the client threw in “DS” on their own. So we might be able to use our Adrenaline.
Now…so I have got Avid 3.0 running on OS 10.5.4 and QT 7.4.5, as required. But the Adrenaline says that IT wants OS 10.4.11 and QT 7.4.5…even under 3.0. Odd spec. Just wondering if I can run it still…I’ll have to test. I did launch Avid 3 and it is fine, but when I turn on the Adrenaline and then launch, it wants to upgrade the firmware. Understandable. But if I do this, and things DON’T work, and we try to get the PC working again, and use Avid 2.6.4, will the Adrenaline work, or not due to the newer firmware?
God…setting up an FCP full online bay is MUCH EASIER than this. But then again, I am hobbling together a system that is just outside of the Avid requirements. I’m wanting to know if my mucking about will make it not possible to go back to a proper system (if we ever get that PC working right…it was failing when we stopped using it and moved to FCP)…

Plug the Adrenaline into your system running 3.0 and it will update the firmware on the Adrenaline so it will work.
Plug it back into your PC running 2.6.4 and it will roll back the firmware to work with 2.6.4. Easy as that.
