I’m setting up an Adrenaline that someone gave us and since i’m not familiar with it and have no manuals and the editor doesn’t remember how it got hooked up, i’m just simply wondering how you hook up machine control. Do i need a usb to 9pin to get to a beta sp deck from the G5 itself or go through the breakout box to the beta deck? stupid easy question but he didn’t seem to supply such a cable or any cable for machine control that i can see. thx.

You need a Keyspan USB device to do deck control via RS-422.

    Justin –
I have no idea of how you will get thru running an AVID product with no training. It’s more than just plugging in the cables.

The correct adaptor for your MAC G5 is the Keyspan USA-28x. This will give you 2 serial ports in the old MAC serial style (like on old MAC Quadra 950 computers). From there, you need an additional cable that AVID usually supplies to go from this connector on the Keyspan to a 9 pin male RS422 connection. You can also get this cable from Pipeline, and Addenda Electronics.

Once you do this, you must load in the keyspan software, enable the ports in the “network” portion of the system preferences in OS-X, and then in the Media Composer application, go to “settings”, select DECK CONFIG, and select the keyspan port for your VTR control. In this menu, you can also choose the VTR model that you have. This can also be done by “autoconfigure”.

How you will figure all this stuff out (and other stuff) without a manual, or training, is beyond me.
