  Avid 8.6.4 “Auto LFE Gain”?

  I’m on the latest version of AVID (8.6.4) and creating a mix for a theatrical DCP I’ll be outputting later this week. I’ve already done a test run in the theatre and the 5.1 mix out of the AVID for the most part sounded awesome. However, the “low end” sounded a bit thin.

  I’ve never used the LFE channel on AVID, so I’m wondering if I need to add some depth to the mix by placing some of the more bass heavy elements (music stings, EFX) on an LFE track.

  However, I just noticed a track based option in the timeline labeled “AUTO LFE GAIN”, but I can’t find any info on what this does.

  Anyone have an idea? My “hope” is that it might detect what frequencies within a track would benefit from the LFE channel and “lowpass” them over accordingly.
