Avid 7.2 gone mute but..

I am new on CreativeCow.net
Now retired. Helping a friend to edit few clips from different sources.
Bought Avid 7.2 after transiting from Pinnacle Studio 9 (10) due advice from Pinnacle in mid 2000.
Got ripped off by a salesrep, but tha’s a different story.7.2 has worked for me so far and now as retired person can’t afford to buy more expensive stuff with no work.
Would love to test different 4k MC editing software.Can someone please help.
In the middle of editing (did I deactivate or reset sth to wrong parameter? I don’t recall that though), it all went mute.
The decible bars show it as all ok & move ok.
Sound on desktop works ok.
I tested exporting to a file, and the result had sound (ok) in it.
The only glitch that suddenly occurred is that on playing through timeline, NO Sound emerges from speakers.
Have checked all parameters in general setting etc. All units assigned seem correct.I am going bonkers! Has any of you had this problem? Is there a solution?
In my life as Independent Filmmaker, allround postprod technician & editor, I’ve had many problems & have been able to solve most of them. But despite more than 3 days of vigorous checks & following instruction manuals, I declare my failure, & that humbly so.

Maybe not your issue, but try duplicating your sequence and removing the second half. See if the audio works then. If a sequence gets too long, it will stop playing audibly, but you’ll still see the bars move.

Thanks, but this whole clip is no more than 30 seconds long. I even exported it to an MP4 HD file.
The resulting file is perfect with sound from both tracks properly mixed.
My problem is that I cannot continue to edit without the sound ON & working in editing mode.I appreciate your help Sean.
I’ll try what you recommend anyways and let you know of result.Hope the sound will find its way back.

That’s not it then. It only happens when your sequence is several hours long. Maybe you accidentally clicked the monitor audio button next to the audio bars on the timeline?

I have cheked that several times. They are visible & so are the monitor Icons.
I even copied one sound track and pasted it on one that was free but nada, no sound.
The strange thing is that the speaker-icons of both tracks are hollow. Normally they are filled white. But they do toggle on (visible) & off(invisible) when clicked on.
When visible, the sound should play in normal circumstances.
Why do they appear hollow – outlined? Do you have any clue?
The tracks that are free have the Icons filled white. But I wonder IF it matters, as long as they are visible (i.e. in ON position)I must have done sth. But the Question is, “What?”.

are the power buttons on your audio tracks turned on?
Each track has a button that can turn a track on or off.Not the mute and solo switches, but the round shaped button.

This would be my next guess too. When you have the track control panel visible, you will see that each track has a power icon next to it that can be toggled. Although you can make I think 24 audio tracks, you can only have I want to say 20 of them monitoring at once. When you have that many tracks, others may automatically turn off. If you don’t have the track control panel on, open it from the hamburger/fast menu.

I saw that the dots(I have blank or a dot between Audio & Video IDnr-V1,A1and monitor box) were not there.
that WAS The Problem. They are invisible in off mode.
I remember having toggled a couple of them off whereby they (the dots) disappeared leaving just grey SPACE/box.
I toggled them to visible & it emits sound to Speakers.
I shall continue to edit my friend’s work tomorrow. It is half past midnight now.Thank you both for your kindness & help. My gratitude.
