  • Avid 7 Crashes when clicking on DnxHD encoded files.

    Hi

I have this wierd problem cropping up that I hope someone has some familiarity with.

I dropped off my consolidated c300 footage and transcoded 5d/GoPro footage to my editor. I transcoded the 5d and goPro footage with the DnxHD 35 format to conserve drive space.

My editor is cutting on a MAC PRo (10.7.5) and is using AVID 7. He can see and use the Conformed c300 footage without issue but when he clicks the DNX encoded material,
AVID crashes. He is able to see the files if he clicks on them in his file explorer however.

I have no issues with these files on my pc where I am running avid 8.3 and an IMAC that is also using 8.3.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    John

Here’s a series of stupid questions that may help you flush out an answer… 🙂

    (1) You did encode these as DNxHD and not as DNxHR?
    (2) How did you encode the DNxHD files? Presumably Quicktime files?
    (3) Does the editor have the compatible DNxHD codec properly installed on his system?
    (4) What version of Avid 7 is your editor running? 7.0.1? 7.0.2? etc. Have they tried to update?
    (5) Does the editor have another install of Avid they can test on?

    1. Yes HD not HR
    2. I used AVID to create the DNX transcodes. Whatever the default is.
    3. The editor installed the newest codecs and can see the files play from his file explorer, not avid however.
    4. Most updated version of 7.
    5. Yes he tested on his imac running 8.3 and it worked fine.
