So getting my feet wet again with Avid after not touching it for yours. Really want to get back in the swing of it. So I’m trying a really basic timeline, two tracks of video, 4 clips all together. I export the AAF, i make sure the aaf edit protocol is checked. disabled the audio, and have it selected to “link to files” rather than transcode.

i try to bring the AAF into resolve, and I run into problems right away. whether I import into media pool first or direct resolve to the folder to pull it in, I’m running into timecode mismatch errors, and it’s not conforming properly.

I’ve tried doing a straight ama timeline only, i’ve transcoded ama to dnxhd and took in the created mxf files, and still I’m running into these problems. It actually linked a little better straight ama timeline vs transcode to dnxhd mxf.

and for the record the new pro res mxf re wrap option, da vinci doesn’t even see these as viable files. which def needs to change…

and I’ve done a variety of assist conform options too, and basically tried every combination I could think. Does anybody have a step by step that they know works with 8.1.1? I read aaf support should be a lot better in this version, but is AAF still that buggy?

original source files are all pro res hq, recorded on a ki pro mini from a sony f3 by the way.

No, it’s not buggy and it works quite well for many of us. Start with the basics. Go back to the Avid bin that has the master clips in your sequence and look at the tape names. Now come up with a way, using the conform options, to get those names for the clips in your media pool. Bring all of the clips into the media pool before loading the AAF, and deselect the option to automatically add the clips. Once you’re sure that the tape names are correct (you can see them in the Reel ID column in the Media Pool), and you’ve tried what I’ve suggested, come back if you’re still having problems.

Mike, you are def always a life savior. Completely forgot that Avid prioritizes tape number first before everything else. All the AMA files had nothing in the tape fields which was probably the reason it was glitching resolve out. I did a whole bunch of tests, and manually putting in a tape number always does the trick, whether I decide to stick with ama files or rewrap/transcode to mxf.
