    Hi,

I’ve recently started working on a new project in AVID XPress Pro 5.7 installed on a MacBook Pro Notebook with the media on two external drives with USB connection.

I have not worked with this setup before, moreover this is my first time working with XPress 5.7 on a mac. (I’ve been working in FCP mostly for the last year or so and before I worked with XPress Pro and XPress on PC)

My problem is that it feels like the program feels a little sluggish. With every click or keyboard command there is a fraction of a second drag, so I always have to go back and readjust everything by a few frames or wait for playback, or… you get the idea. Is there a way to fix the problem? Is it settings, or is it drives?

    Thanks.
    Alec.

I’ve just installed 5.7 on two PC’s. The little I played with them, it did seem sluggish – more of a redraw issue. I’m freelancing a gig with 5.7 on a Macbook Pro, and it didn’t seem quite as bad. Have you tried changing your refresh rate? I seem to remember reading someone using 75hz and liking it….

I’m not sure that’d help me. I’m not that concerned with image quality at this moment, just cutting. But pressing play/stop, in/out i’m always a few frames late and i have to go in and adjust. Not to say I make perfect edits on the fly, but it doesn’t seem right.

So, the issue is you are playing an extra 1-2 frames when you stop? Do you feel Avid is adding those extra frames when you hit stop?

i feel avid lags in responding to keyboard clicks, thus yes, adding those frames.

I guess my ability to mark a frame of video on the fly is a little rusty. I’ve never noticed a lag. Is this something you’ve not encountered in FCP?

Do you have a Mojo hooked to this system? If so, unplug it or hit the DNA button on your timeline to switch to firewire out when you’re cutting. You may see some increase in response.

Also, USB drives aren’t ideal for editing, so the delay may be because of this. What resolution are you editing at?
