we were going to be upgrading from avid version 4.0 to media composer 6, but are now going directly to symphony – just wondering if any of you have any thoughts on how the transition will be, both learning curve wise, project wise, etc…

You will need time to learn the additional color corrector modes, but you can continue you your present workflow using what you already know until you do.

There are many interface changes between v4 and v6. They are the same in MC and Symphony.

V6 has many improvements to AMA. You need to learn the AMA workflow (link to AMA and transcode), as you will use this instead of the straight importing you do in V4, in many instances.

thanks for your response -one huge concern i have is the transfer of certain bins that have material i need for ongoing projects – is this difficult/possible?

No bin issues. Uses the same bins.

there are new column options in v6, but old bins will open. again, no difference between symph and MC.
