Can I aquire native 16×9 footage on my XL2, and import it to an older media composer or to an avid express, edit and export?

Yes, 16:9 is a viewer only function in the Avid. When the edit monitor is set to 16:9 (right click in monitor and select 16:9), the viewer scales to 16:9 creating the proper asect ratio. This also keys some effects such as circle wipes and the title tool to create the proper aspect ratio as well.
