I am trying to insert live action video shot with a green screen into a C4D scene. I have used After Effects to create an AVI file with embedded alpha channel. I then create a plane object in the sceene and create a material assigned to the object and then use the AVI as the texture in the alpha channel box. However I find the resulting video is semi-transparent. Does C4D not recognised AVI texture files that have embedded alpha channels? If so is there an alternative method I could employ to insert live video of actors into a scene?

I’d suggest exporting to an image sequence instead- like Photoshop sequence from AfterEffects. You should have much cleaner results than AVI which depending on the codec has a not great alpha channel.

Thanks for the response, I did think about the approach you suggest but I can’t see how to get the Material dialogue box to let me load an image sequence instead of an AVI. Do you know if this possible?

Sure- you load the first frame as if it were a still, then click on the animation tab, then click calculate. The rest of the frames will be loaded.

I’ve just followed the procedure you outlined but when I click calculate it reports just 1 in all the boxes. I’ve tried several variations to get it to ‘see’ all the frames in the file but without success. I’m using Ver.8.5 – would this make any difference?

You are loading in the still from a directory in which all of the rest of the stills in the sequence are there and following the same naming scheme?

Just tried it. Works fine for me- but then again I’m in 9.5 so that might be an issue. Don’t forget the it will not update in the preview window, only on renders.

    Noah,
yes I’ve output the original video file as a numbered sequence of TIFF images from my editing program, all into the same folder. The format is alpha characters space numbers e.g. FRED_123
