AVI rendering has horizontal banding
I’ve been using Vegas for several years, mostly for church projects and nothing terribly fancy at that, so I’m sure this problem has a simple answer. I render to Windows AVI for everything and have noticed that when I render in AVI format (NTSC DV, Best quality) I get a lot of horizontal black banding in the rendered output with transitions. It looks great in the Video Preview window when the timeline is played in Vegas but when I render in AVI the Video Preview window shows the black horizontal banding (during the render) that comes out in the rendered file. Of course, the banding looks terrible. I have a simple sample using the page peel to demonstrate if posting that to a site will help.
I’ve recently downloaded the After Effects trial version and have noticed that AVI renders from AE from the same machine with similar transitions come out very clean.
I appreciate any assistance on what I can look at to eliminate the banding.
On a side note, are there any plug-ins for Vegas that provide title animation similar to After Effects?

Just a guess, but horizontal banding is one result of having your video black level (pedestal) too low. What’s it look like on the waveform monitor?

Thanks Gary. I’ve tried this with several different backgrounds behind the transition with luma values ranging from too dark, nicely balanced and too light and all result in the same banding effect when it’s rendered to AVI. The banding reveals the underlying image. The preview window looks great during timeline playback but the render is where it shows up. Is there any way to post a graphic here to demonstrate what I’m seeing? There may be an easy term to describe that I’m simply not aware of.
