I recently got back into video editing. Still using Vegas 6. I have been having a problem with AVI’s not showing the video clip on the timeline. The audio shows up. .WMV show up as well. Can’t figure out what happened. Any help would be appreciated

What codec do the AVI files use? Make sure it’s a format that Vegas can edit. If it is, make sure you have the codec installed on your PC. You can use GSpot to determine what codec an AVI file uses.

The GSpot does not support 64bit Vista…I installed a video converter between a couple of projects for internet .flv to knock down the MB’s. Maybe i lost something in the process.

Sure it does. I use it all the time on Vista 64. I’m not sure why you would think that it doesn’t work.

You still didn’t answer my question. What codec did you use? This is your problem. You need to use a codec that Vegas can edit.

I downloaded the GSpot. The program didn’t list Vista so I was hesitant to use it. This is what the boxes show:

    Video Codec
4CC mpg 2 compatible codecs installed

    AVI Draw
    MJPEG compresser

When the clip was rendered i got this on the Video path:

    S) –> AVI Splitter –> Pinnacle DCxx MJPEG Decompressor –> Color Space Converter –> (R)

    [Mike Hinkel] “AVI Draw
    MJPEG compresser”

Did this video come from a digital still camera?
If yes, please do a search here on MJPEG.
This is an issue that has come up several times and there are numerous posts addressing it.

Looks like you have a Pinnacle DC10 card doing hardware decompression is that right? You will need to install a 3rd party MJPEG codec to work with these files in Vegas.

There was a Pinnacle program I uninstalled from this machine. Whether there is a card I don’t know…Something Pinnacle, for sure.

I went and downloaded the MJPEG codec that is required and am pleased to inform you that the AVI clips are now in the video timeline.

    Thank you so very much…Mike
