    Hello,

I have a Canon digital camera that can take a few seconds of video and the output is in .avi format. When I have tried to use these video clips in Vegas it doesn’t read anything. I click on the file and all I get is a blank screen. I thought I would solve this by converting the file to mpg. That did fix the initial problem because I see the video now in Vegas, but the image is blurry. Is there a reason Vegas will not read the original .avi file or is there a way to convert the file without degrading the image?

    Thank you.

What form of .avi is your footage. You probably do not have the correct codec on your system. Download the free utility G-Spot. When you drop your video on G-Spot it will tell you what co-dec was used and if you have it on your system. If you don’t you will have to go find it. (Google it) and install it. Then Vegas MAY work with it. Vegas does not support every single format out there. I don’t believe any NLE does.

I did this and according to g-spot I had the correct codec so that apparently wasn’t the problem. When I convert it to mpeg Vegas does read it, but the image is blurry. Thanks for the suggestion.
