    Hello everyone,

I’m new and happy to be on this forum, I hope I will be able to share the little I know. I have a little (maybe not) question about getting .AVI file into Final Cut 7 Pro. I’m editing a music video from various found footage and one of the sources is a movie which is in .AVI format. I looked on the internet and I found nothing but expensive software to do this. So I wanted to ask you pros if it was actually this bad, as almost any other format is transcodable with MPEG Streamclip.

Thank you if you can help me with this 🙂

    Jean.

The only software I’ve been able to convert AVI with is Sorenson Squeeze. Compressor and MPEG STREAMCLIP wouldn’t do it. Might also try Media Encoder from Adobe…

I regularly get .avi files to edit from a ‘GoPro’ type camera, they open in QT7 Pro on a 2009 MacPro (El Capitan) and it allows export to ProRes for FCP7. The machine once had FCP7 on it so the ProRes codecs and QT7 stayed on the system when I deleted it off that partition as FCP7 failed to work properly under El Capitan and I now use a second boot drive with just SL & FCP7.
