    Hi there.

I render a file in Sony Vegas Pro 8 as an .avi and when I preview it in DVD Architect Pro 5 the image jitters up and down. If I watch the file in Windows media player it plays fine.

The clip was filmed at 24p and the project properties are set to 23.976, that’s also what I’m rendering it as.

I noticed in the DVD Architect properties window it’s set to mpeg 2 at 29.97 fps and I can’t change those settings at all, there are no other options in the drop down menu.

I tried burning a DVD to see if it was just the preview window and the image still jittered. I don’t know what is up with this, I’ve been rendering and burning videos for years on vegas 6 and dvd architect 4 and now with this new software it’s doing this to me.

    What’s the deal?

    Thanks.

That is because you need to render your videos
to the MPEG 2 format before you place it in DVD Architect.

So with this new software you can’t use .avi? I’ve been rendering out .avi files in Sony DVD Architect 4.0 for the longest time with no problem and now it wont work.

Is this a new change by the company?

No, nothing has changed. You can still use AVI files and DVD Architect will convert them to MPEG2 for you. Steve was just recommending that you render them to MPEG2 directly from Vegas to see if the jitters go away. I’m not sure why it’s not working with AVI files for you because it should.

I have the identical experience as Evan Peters – I also had no problems with Vegas versions prior to 8 (and 9 that I just tried and uninstalled after) and DVD Architect 4.5.

However, Vegas 8 and 9 and Architect 5 produce a DVD that has terrible jitters on all camera pans – horizontal & vertical.

My source is always the same – already mpeg2 from the Sony DVD-Camcoder and I always render the final output to mpeg2 using the standard preset (PAL Widescreen for Architect), then render again to get the AC3 audio, preview the “raw” .MPG file (no problem whatsoever, smooth as silk) and then create the DVD with Architect. I never consider the preview function in Architect to be representative of final DVD quality, I simply use it to test the DVD structure and behaviour of the Menus.

Once everything is 100% fine, I create the DVD and preview (on the PC). At that point, the jitter is already there, so it’s definitely not the incompatibility of equipment.

So… Vegas? Architect? Standard presets? I am keen to believe that it’s the Architect that is at fault here, because the mpeg2 rendered by Vegas is smooth, but there is still a possibility that the mpeg2 settings/parameters are simply not right for Architect?

I’m just a casual user, family & travel movies etc. My knowledge of production techniques and understanding of the tuning of the parameters is near zero – that’s why I simply use the recommended presets. The point is – I didn’t change anything in my workflow (except the software versions), so it has to be something with V.8/9 and A.5.

Posible solution? (have not had the time to try it yet): https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/885588
(Turn OFF the “Reduce Interlace Flicker”)

    Best regards,
    Mike

PS. My first post! Love the forum, I have been leeching ideas and solution from here regularly 🙂

Update: Glad to report that the problem has been sorted out.

After checking the various parameters suggested here and elsewhere, I found that “Reduce Interlace …” was already Off (as suggested), so that was not the culprit.

The actual problem was the standard “DVD PAL Widescreen…” MPG rendering template. It has “Lower Field First” as the default, while my DVD Cam produces the “Upper first”! When I adjusted this in the template to match, everything came together perfectly.

By the way, I also tested the “None – Progressive” option and that reduced the jitter to a certain degree, but still far from perfect.

So, there we go. However, I am not sure what is the solution for the original poster’s problem (AVI rendering) – whether the Upper/Lower field parameter selection is available at all?

    Rgds,
    M
