AVI files and AVID
Hey,
Please may people be so kind as to offer their suggestions of how they might solve this problem. I have looked at a lot of the posts on here so if I have missed a similar thread then apologies.
Basically I have just started work as a producer for a TV company in the UK (so PAL) and we are about to start delivering footage every day to a major broadcaster for TX and for upload to their websites, exclusive content and all that stuff.
Unfortunately they have asked for all the web content to be sent in as AVI!!! Arrrghhh!!! As we all know AVID throws a total wobbly after reaching 2 gigs and won’t do any more. What is the quickest way of getting an AVI out plz? I thought export it as a QT file at highest qulity and then run it through a coverstion programme like MPEG_STREAMCLIP or something, but if there are any other ways that are better, easier, less time consuming please would you be so kind as to let me know.
We can’t edit on another package as every edit suit is an AVID and we need to be on that system so we can pull all the footage we need from the servers.

Do you have Sorenson Squeeze? If these are new Avid purchases, it comes with it (it came with old Avid’s too–I’m just not sure when they started bundling it).
If you have Sorenson (or another compression program)installed on your Avid, export a quicktime reference (it should take at most a few seconds), then bring the quicktime reference into Sorenson and set it up to encode to the .avi of your choice.
If the compression programs are on another computer, export a quicktime then take it over.

Thanks for replying. I don’t know exactly if they have Sorenson Squeeze on their systems, but I’ll defo give them a look over tomorrow to check. If it’s as easy as how you described with that programme then looks like you have solved the problem straight away. Crossed fingers 🙂
