    Hi there,
I am using Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5
I have been given some footage on DVD.. As far as I can understand Adobe PPro doesn’t support the IFO file that a dvd is in..
So I downloaded avsmedia tools to convert that file from .ifo to .avi.
When it is done downloading it , I can view it thru movie player and also when I open Adobe PPro I can import it in.. View it from the sequence BUT when I pull it down into my time line the video is all black..I can still hear the audio but I see nothing but a black screen.
If I go back up into the sequence it is still watchable in there but NOT in the timeline.

Any ideas or software suggestions that can be used to convert readable files to Adobe PPro 1.5?

Thanks so much for all your help.

[adphunting] “So I downloaded avsmedia tools to convert that file from .ifo to .avi.”

.avi is a generic term, it can be divx, xvid, etc, which don’t work too good in Premiere, you have to convert it to DV AVI type2.

The only reliable method I have found for editing video from a DVD is to play it from a stand alone player thru a analog/digital converter to Premiere via firewire.

    “analog/digital converter”

Thanks.. What do you recommend to use for this..I never encountered this before so it is all new to me.

    Thanks again for your help

Many of the older DV camcorders have a “pass-thru” feature that will facilitate the conversion.
ADS Tech Pyro A/V link is less than $200, Canopus ADVC 100 is more.

I have the same problem with a different wrinkle… My source material is in Avid NewsCutter, and I need to edit some portions in Pro 1.5…

I’m assuming avi would give me the highest quality, but it doesn’t work for the reasons stated above.

Any good alternatives for exporting from NewsCutter?
    Highest quality is desirable.

    thanks, Deep
