I am a PC user and I have a .AVI file exported from a Final Cut/Mac project. The file was exported using DVC Pro as the export setting. Now that I have imported the .AVI into my PC it will play perfectly on Windows Media Player. But when I import it to a PP5 project (it imports just fine)it freezes everyting when I drop it into the timeline or double click to bring it up in the preview window.

Any help or a workaround is appreciated. I tried to do this through AE with the same resulting freeze. I have a feeling there was some mistake in the settings when it was exported from FCP, but since the .AVI works fine in Windows Media Player I sure do think there must be a workaround that could be done. Re exporting the file is a last resort as the client is already frustrated.

I’d first take a look into the file with Mediainfo, a free utility that will tell you every thing you need to know about how the file was encoded. That may shed some light. However, it looks like you may have to transcode to a more amiable codec.
