  • AVI export bug in FCP?

Posted by Mike Salerno on June 20, 2007 at 4:15 pm

    Hello All,

I need to export uncompressed AVI’s out of final cut pro 5.1.4. I am working in 1080i uncompressed HD.

After my export is complete and I go to playback the file, it appears that only 12 seconds of my 3 minute clip has exported, however, when I check the file size, it appears to contain the size of a 3 minute clip at 21 gigs.

I have also had problems with .WMV files where the full file does not export. Is this a bug in FCP or has any dealt with a similar situation? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I always export as a quicktime, and then I use Streamclip 1.8 to convert to whatever format I need it to be in…. a google search on mpeg streamclip will get you to the program…

WMV support is provided by Flip4Mac, not FCP. In order to export full WMV clips, you need to purchase the extended plug-in.

That might be what’s causing the AVI problem too.

There are some file size limitations with avis. Do a search to research this.

Also remember the FAT32 limit if you’re wanting to get these to a PC.

If you must do this regularly and expect to enjoy doing it and to get paid for it, buy a PC. Export your sequences as self-contained movies in a format your PC will recognize, transcode them over your network on the PC to AVI.

AVI is s-o-o-o 80s. You need to determine why your clients need AVI. They probably don’t, they just don’t know any better.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
