.avi dvsd and Final Cut Pro
Hi all,
I’ve just spent a week using a well spec’d hired in system editing P2 footage from live gigs, but the VJ visuals and main audio track were recorded onto a FireStore as .avi files. All week they were fine on the hired machine, playing as normal, now however I’ve returned home and I can’t get them to play on my system in either FCP or QT.
When I ‘Get Info’ on the file it offers no insight into the codec, but when opening the files in VLC they play and the info suggests the video is dvsd and the audio is araw.
Does anybody have any info as to why they worked on the other machine and not mine?
For the record, both machines are running 6.0.5.

I’m in the same situation. I’ve exported .avi files from a Windows-based TriCaster Studio machine. The codecs seem to be dvsd and araw. QuickTime and Final Cut Express on my iMac will not open the .avi files but they will open in Mpeg Streamclip and VLC. And more importantly they WILL open in iMovie 9! There must be come codec installed with iMovie that’s not part of QuickTime or Final Cut. Anyone have any ideas how to fix? Otherwise I’m having to export them out of Mpeg Streamclip as .mov.

I finally got the .avi files to open in QuickTime and FCE by installing the Divx codec.
