AVI DV Type 2 video file – import or need to convert first?
My camera is a Panasonic PV-GS500 using mini DV tape. I have an hour long file of jump cuts (most of which will be thrown out!) that has been captured using FireWire and WinDV. I downloaded GSpot to identify the codec. It tells me: DV Type 2 AVI, codec dvsd / DV video. I hope I’m writing this correctly. It is in 16:9 ratio and 720×480. I have played it back on my Windows 8 pc with no problems.
Do I need to convert it to something else before importing, or will this type of AVI import smoothly into Premiere Pro for editing?
Another question is once I have the file on my computer, can I move or copy the file to another place with no loss of data? I have the original where it landed and have copied it to a more spacious location on another partition.
I have never made a video and I have never used Premiere Pro. This is a whole new world. (I do use Photoshop and Dreamweaver.)
Thanks!
