AVCHD unsupported media problem – renaming stream issue?
Hello,
I have a whole lot of .mts files on my external hard-drive shot on a borrowed Sony XR155. Whilst shooting this footage, it was necessary for me copy, then delete files, in order to have enough hard-drive space to continue shooting. I renamed ‘STREAM’ to ‘STREAM2’ and 3 when importing the footage for these additional files. I also renamed ‘CLIPINF’ in the same way.FCP 7 will recognise the initial .mts files from ‘STREAM’ in ‘Log & Transfer’ but gives the ‘unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure’ error message with the other two stream folders. All files play in VLC and I copied absolutely everything from the camera’s hd (playlist, etc) onto my external hd.
I am aware I can convert the files using ClipWrap2 but am really keen to see if I can avoid doing this as there are SO MANY files! I have tried renaming the files too and moving them to another external hd, to no avail. I have taken a look at previous posts about fcp/.mts files but could find nothing that quite matches my particular problem.
I would really appreciate some guidance,

What you did was wrong. Wrong in every way. This is the proper workflow for tapeless ingest into FCP: Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial
What you do is make NEW folders and back up the ENTIRE card…everything. In the full card structure. WIthout renaming anything. Rename things, only copy certain folders, change the directory structure, and FCP will not import. Then ClipWrap is your only option.
