  • AVCHD to FCP big file size?

Posted by Nick August-perna on August 30, 2009 at 2:49 pm

I know it says that converting to Apple Pro Res codec will increase file size by 4 times using log and transfer in FCP, but I’ve converted using the Apple intermediate codec which is supposedly the lesser of the two, and what was originally 25g worth of original media is now 150g in the new quicktimes. 6 times the size??!
Is there anything that can be done? Thank you very much

Convert to ProRes and not to AIC.

That was the first thing I did, and it made the file sizes even bigger. So I erased and did a test with AIC which seemed to reduce the file size by about 75%. So I went with that but still so huge. Any idea why?
    Thanks

AIC is a large file format. They’ll both generate large format files. All the data rates and other information for each of these formats is available on the Internet. You would be advised to use ProRes. It is a substantially better codec than AIC, which is quite a few years old.

Ok, i’ll do that. So you’re saying the 6x file size is normal then? Thanks.
