I am starting my first HD project in PPro 5. I’ve done a lot of work in SD (PPro 3) but the HD options when setting up the PPro 5 project confuse me. Please advise what settings to use. My footage is shot with a Sony HDR-CX700VE in the highest quality and resolution (1980/1020 50i PAL). Those are AVCHD clips which I just copy as files on the computer. They come with the .mts extension. I do a lot of effects (in After Effects as well as in PPro) so maintaining the highest quality is a must. My computer is robust and can handle anything.

Curiously, I shoot in 5.1 channel sound but the settings in PPro when I create the project do not seem to offer that option. I can change to 5.1 in the audio Master drop-down but that seems to throw me into CUSTOM settings which always makes me uncomfortable.

Besides, in the sequence on the timeline i get the yellow line above which, I think, means it isn’t exactly as should be.
I will be very grateful for your advice.

    Best regards,
    Vasco

Your best option is to drag a clip on the Create new Sequence to match button @ the bottom of the browser.

Thank you, Chris. But doing this presumes I’ve already created a project and thus determined the parameters. I’ll give an extreme example to illustrate my logic: Say I have created by mistake an SD project and I drop an HD clip to Create a new Sequence. It will still be an SD project, no? While I want to work in HD. I hope I am wrong but something’s nagging on me that I should make the project right for my purposes from the start…

    Thanks and best regards,
    Vasco

It’s based on the Sequence, not the proj.
Drop a HD clip on the new sequence icon and you’ll have a HD sequence.

I right click on the AVCHD file I’ve imported into PP CS5.5 and click on create new sequence from clip … as noted above. As Vasco daNeva stated, the sequence turns yellow and in my case there is no audio. When I play the file in Windows Media player there is no sound, but when I play it in VLC the sound is present. I want to preserve the 1080p resolution so I do not want to down convert. Do I need to extract the audio track and encode it separately?

    Or?

    Thanks for your help.
