AVCHD render Assistance/Advice PLEASE PLEASE…….
Hi everyone, the following has been driving me crazy for months, can anyone PLEASE help?
I have Sony HDR CX 350VE camcorder, which produces AVCHD 1080/50i output files with a file extension .MTS
They play back beautifully from the HDMI output of the camera into my Sony bravia PAL TV, but I’ve tried dozens of output settings on premier Pro 5.5.2 on my macbook pro (8GB RAM core i7 processor 2012). After rendering and exporting, I get horrible juddery playback, especially when panned shots are prevalent, yet these look perfect when I play them backusing the original camcorder’s own HDMI socket. can anyone please help?
I setup a sequence using the imported file properties.
I then use my “Match sequence Settings” is ticked, and I get the following settings appear
MPEG Preview
Frame Rate 25fps
Upper first
Codec I-framethese give me juddery results.
I’ve tride de-interlacing, this doesn’t help
I have read lots of online tutorials, and most suggest using the H.264 codec.
I’ve even tried a preset called Match Source Attributes h.264 Blu-Ray, and also with H.264 Formats selected on all available settings.
Please, what am i doing wrong, it’s so frustrating to see video so smooth playing from my camcorder, but juddery output after endering through the computer. I’m playing the juddery files both on my Macbook pro’s screen, and additionally on the PAL TV, they both judder!
I’ve also tried combinations of .h264 codecs and numerous containers. Can anyone please, please help me?
It’s so frustrating to see very good video output in its sony outputted 25fps interlaced original format (.mts) and I just can’t achieve any sort of reasonable smoothe footage when I render. It’s just driving me nuts.. I will be so, so grateful if anyone could possibly take the time to help me out

The first thing I’d look at would be the location of the preview renders, MPEG2 really shouldn’t be very stressful to play back, but if your system drive is where those preview render files are located, you are probably asking the system drive to do too much with the OS, the application AND the HD preview file playback…particularly since you’re likely doing some sort of disk caching with only 8GB of RAM available.

The problem I have is that I export the file to an external HD and play it back via an external player (actually I use 2 to for comparison purposes, and the resulting exported file is just juddery. The original .mts files played directly (still avchd) are smooth 1080i) when also exported snd [layed back by my external player..
It’s not the output from my macbook pro that I’m having a problem with, its the finished files after exporting at all different types of settings.

My rendered/transcoded file are always juddery.
i’ve tried a huge amount of rendering options, and none give me smooth playback. I’d loke to use the populat .h264 codec but have tried lots of permutations of containers.
This is really frustrating.. All I want to do is edit, join and render my footage into a format that will be playable by most popular media. Interlaced is fine for me. 1080iis fine for me. It seems like it should be so simple, but sony/adobe don’t seem o have the ability to do this it seems.
I’m considering transcoding all 1080i original .mts files into Pro res files , using an external software, then importing into premiere pro. Is this an option, and can you suggest good software to do this.
I’ve also tried using a friends mac and Final Cut Pro X 10.0.9 and Compresor (Apple), but don’t understand the software fully, and obtained poor, juddery results also.
Any help woukld be so very much appreciated.

Are you using a preset of some kind?
It is possible to start making random adjustments such that you create a file that is simply a non-optimized combination of parameters. The presets are usually the best bet for optimal compatibility.
