I’d like to get the Sony HDR-SR! camcorder with the built in hard-drive and AVCHD codec. But I want to know it will work with FCP 5 first. Does it? Is AVCHD just a QuickTime file that you can drag of of it’s hard-drive via USB 2.0, or does it require a special codec that Apple hasn’t released yet?

No. FCP does not support this camera nor this format at this time.

No idea as support for this camera has not been released.
