AVCHD ingest – new good and bad news

Is there a simple (or complex) answer to the question: Can one use a camera (which?) with AVCHD to interface with FCP 6.0.3 on my Power PC G5 Mac? Or is it categorically only possible with an Intel Mac?

I need a very small camera. And it appears that the ones with AVCHD may be better than the tape ones available…If I could but use it with my computer.
