AVCHD footage, FCP 6, 1080 30p
A couple problems with my my work flow.
I have ingested 1080 30p footage from a Panasonic HMC150 into my “Better” model iMac. When I pull it into FCP6 (just bought it this month) with “Log and Transfer” then attempt to playback two things occur.
1) All footage needs to be rendered on the timeline for playback (just to view it)
2) The aspect ratio seems off. Very long footage (looks to be 2560 x 1080).Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
640GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory
1 TB external Lacie DriveI have been using QuickTime Conversion to create 1920×1080 HD files which takes forever, although it can then be imported and put on timeline with no rendering necessary to view. Help!

What format did you shoot? What settings did you have set when you ingested your media? What are the item properties of your sequence?

I shot AVCHD in 1080/30p. Settings for the sequence are HD (1280×1080) for aspect ratio, pixel aspect ratio HD (1280×1080) with field dominance “upper (odd). Quicktime video settings are compressor – “apple Prores 4229HQ). Rendering in 8-bit YUV.I didn’t see a project choice for the AVCHD format…chose the closest one that I could understand.
Thanks for your help! I didn’t know how to find the “Log and Transfer” settings. Stealth mode placement?

It looks like your sequence settings are off. The HMC 150 shoots 1920×1080 (or 1280×720).
Depending on your Log and Transfer settings your clips will be transcoded to to ProRes (or to the Apple Intermediate Codec).
