so when I copy the data from my canon camera .. it creates avchd folder with files and of course the mts file is in the stream folder… my blue ray player will read avchd files..(when i pop the card in the player directly from the camera it works) is there any way to edit the avchd file and put it back into the original folder so my blue ray player will read it again… I’m guessing not because vegas changes the file ext. to MTS …. or do I need to render to mpeg2.. how much loss will I have w/ mpeg2? finally, when it says is can read avchd.. does that mean it can read mts files? or does it need the whole directory? yeah I know… lots of questions…

The camera format is actually an AVCHD Blu-ray disc format which is why it automatically plays in a Blu-ray player. Just have Vegas render an AVCHD Blu-ray disc from the timeline with Tools | Burn Disc | Blu-ray Disc… and place the results of that on your card. Since Vegas actually creates an ISO file, you’ll have to mount that to get the file structure from it. I use the free Virtual CloneDrive to do this.
